Congratulations to Janet Lampman our newest recipient of the Order of Niagara! We are all so proud
Each year, parishes are invited to nominate a person to receive the Order of Niagara. These nominees are people who have given of themselves to the parish, the diocese and the Church. It is a way of honouring their efforts and their ministry in the diocese. It is with this in mind that I wish to nominate Janet Lampman to receive this award. Janet has tirelessly and graciously served her church, Our Saviour the Redeemer, and her Lord over the past years.
Janet has been married for 51 years and is the mother of a 46 year old Down Syndrome daughter. In her personal life Janet has shown her heart of a servant by volunteering countless hours in her daughter’s day program at the Dundas Learning Centre for over 20 years.
In her parish, Janet has been a Sunday school teacher, a church Warden, and served on parish council many times. She has been a Eucharistic Assistant and is a member of Altar Guild. She has volunteered for catering and serving dinners for seniors at “Food, Faith and Fun” which is a parish program that promotes friendship and sharing a devotion to Christ among seniors in the church and the community. Known for her culinary skills and generosity she has hosted many dinners for the servers of the church.
She has served the diocese as a delegate to Synod (she even helped decorate the Convention Centre for Synod). She also has been a member of the Canadian Mothers’ Union which further attests to her call to faith and action not just in her church and community but in responding globally.
Janet’s personal achievements show her spirit of compassion and determination. After graduating from Saltfleet High School, Janet went on to become a registered nurse. She has always had an interest in helping others as Christ’s servant when as a young girl she belonged to Canadian Girls in Training (CGIT). Eventually she became a leader encouraging other young women to make the most of the CGIT mission which is “ under the leadership of Jesus, it is my purpose to Cherish Health, Seek Truth, Know God, Serve Others and thus, with His help, become the girl (woman) God would have me be.”
Janet is fearless and is up to the challenge of not just moving mountains but climbing them! She has hiked Mount Whitney, the highest mountain in the contiguous United States (elev.14,505 ft), a round trip of 11miles, in one day. An avid hiker she has also hiked the South Rim to the North Rim of the Grand Canyon and has done an end to end hike of the Bruce Trail.
